Liverpool Biennial 2010

As part of the Liverpool Biennial, I helped realise the graphics, video, still images, big screen presentations, supporting documentation and preparatory work for a planned performance project 'Lying-down- on-the-ground,' for which Sonia Khurana (Artist, India), had been contracted to have a first performance on the 19th September 2010,  re-sited at Liverpool’s World Museum. This had been commissioned by New Art Exchange, Nottingham in partnership with Nottingham Trent University, National Museums, Liverpool and Liverpool Biennial 2010.

After the commission was withdrawn, I was delighted to support “What a Piece,” the work which was then created with the group of volunteers of all ages who had been drawn in to the earlier project. This new work was created as a replacement for the second part of Sonia’s planned performance for National Museums’ Long Night in November, and to mark the close of the Biennial season at Liverpool’s Walker Art Gallery.

It was a privilege to work with the volunteers; with Dave Ellwand, the producer; with the teachers, NML staff and the Surreal Orchestra, and to meet Eugene Skeef, the poet and composer in this exciting, affirmative and inclusive project.

I learned a great deal by seeing how Sonia Khurana worked with volunteers and the public.

My personal thanks to Dave Ellwand (Freelance Consultant, UK) and to Skinder Hundal (New Art Exchange) for allowing me to become involved in such a project!
